| 1954-55 | Jim Broome | I went
to Beamont in 1954-55. I then left England and moved to Texas. Been here
ever since. A great page.........Thanks. |
| -1955 | Eric B Caddy | When I graduated in 1955 Beamont Tech was across the street from the Peninsula Barracks. Is it not still there? I earned my HNC at Warrington Tech which was on Long Lane - is that the new Beamont? |
| 1958-1963 | Alan Critchley. | Now I
really am an 'old' boy. I attended Beamont in O'Leary Street 1958 to1963
(or so). When it was all boys and the open air loos were in the playground
between us and the junior school next door. I started at the sametime as
Mr. Birkett became headmaster. He started the regime where from our year onwards, uniform was compulsary. Mr. Dutton was deputy head, other teachers were Mr. Millard (French), Stonewall Jackson (maths), Walter Norris (metalwork), who used to play rugby with my Dad, Mr. Atherton (technical drawing), Mr. Rees (science) and Johnny Thomas (Art), who was a prisoner of the Japanese and subsequently committed suicide (I believe). Ossie Clark had just left, he was murdered by a 'friend'. Not a great deal happened while I was there. One bloke was expelled on the last day of term for setting the fire alarm off. Rhubarb used to grow on the coke heap next to the caretaker's house. I was knocked unconscious in the playground once. I once got six of the best on the hand from Mr. Birkett. People there with me included, Ian Crozier, Charlie Farrington, Johnny Fogg, Alan Tranter, Geoff Dutton, Peter Bagley (spelling?), Peter Clare, Peter Shoemaker and I can't remember any other names. I didn't have the luxury of a mixed sex school and the nearest I got to themwas passing Oakwood every day on my way to Beamont. Charlie Farrington and I were the first to attend the sixth form and being the first to get 'A' levels. We used to play rugby on the playing fields where the new school is now situated. It was the Technical College. We did cross country running there too. Every Christmas we were treated to a film show in the hall. It was always the 'Dambusters'. I was excused assembly so all us 'Catholics' went into a room until it was over. I became a Graphic Designer, married and for my sins, have five children. I now live in Hertford with three of them. I'm now (gratefully) divorced. I run a website www.rorkesdriftvc.com which may be of interest. I'mcontactable at alan@rorkesdriftvc.com. Good idea this site, it would be nice to hear from some fellow oldies as I'm only in contact with Ian Crozier. |
| 1958-1963 | I arrived in '58 and left
in '63. In between I had some of the best years of my life.
Walter and Jack were just terrific. So was Johnny Lyons but he didn't
stay long enough. Alf Hart and Ernie Miff saw to the cultural side.
Who could ever forget the day the school piano had drawing pins stuck into
the hammer heads. What a noise at morning assembly! Even the
other teachers couldn't resist laughing. Beamont must have been the only school in the Uk where bike handle bar grips were used to imitate the behavior of a rugby ball as we all played "tuck n pass" at every opportunity. |
|
| 1962-1967 | Alan Humphries |
I started at Beamont Secondary Technical School on September 11th, 1962. My
classform history goes Most
of my time at Beamont was at the O'Leary St school but the move to the
'new' school building (that had been promised for as long as I was at
Beamont) happened just as I was about to leave in 1967. I did
reasonably well at O Levels and went on to do two years at Boteler Grammar
before going to University in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. I left UK in 1972
and lived and worked in Zambia for six years. I
relocated to New Zealand in 1978 (around the time of John Travolta and
Olivia Newton-John in Grease)and I have been here ever since. |
| 1962-1967 | Neil MacKenzie | I benefited greatly from my time at Beamont and do not regret having been a casualty of the 11+exam. I have particularly fond memories of teachers like Mrs Yates (sometimes dragon), Johnny Thomas the art teacher and e-type rally driver, Nocker Norris (the horse-strap) and Jack Atherton (watch for the hammer skidding across the workshop floor towards you) in the workshops, Reece and Leuwaan in science, Millard (and his fast striding walk), pie-king the math teacher and Ron Birkett. I was fortunate to spend most of the time at the old school location before they moved to the new one in '67 and merged with the girl's school. Girls must have come as a shock to a few of us in the 4th year |
| 1965-1970 | John O'Neil | Monty Millard did French, Nocker Norris
did rugby, Jet Harris was 1H form master, we moved to Long Lane when I was in 2R (Gerry Rees) and Ossie Clark was well gone. Any more memories out there? |
| 1967-1975 | Valerie Bates |
I was form prefect to one of the classes in
your year I can't remember which one, though Inez Lamb is a name which
is permanently etched on my brain so it may have been her class.
Love the pictures of the staff and your
"poem" which sums many of them up perfectly though in those
days we called what Margaret Parker (and later I ) taught "Housecraft".
Do you remember the production of The King
and I?
|
| 1967-1974 | Martin Terry | |
| 1969-1974 | Wade Dooley | Excellent idea John Well
done!! I was at the old school bet 1969 and 1974, left and moved shortly afterwards to join the constabulary in Blackpool where I still serve. Thats the part time job, I also played a bit of rugby at various levels, and am grateful to Walt Norris for all the time, effort and constructive sarcasm from the touch line. "That damn ball would never do what I wanted it to" Married with two girls and enjoying life to the full, I am still heavily involved with the sport, although not playing. I Still have family connections with Warrington!! Does anybody remember a school gathering/assembly in the hall when Ozzie Clark (an old pupil of the school) came to re visit & speak to us. We all waited with baited breath for this celebrity 70's fashion designer to appear. As he entered the back of the hall escorted in by the then head master. He was a vision of loveliness as he minced in, in pink silk flares -&- matching schiffon shirt, feather boa and very very stacked boots with flowing locks. I remember the faces of Sam Hoyle and Walt Norris (sports masters) Walt nearly biting through his pipe!! as they burst into tucks of laughter, closely followed by the uproar from the rest of the all boys school (before they let us loose with the Oakwood girls) as Ozzie lisped into his opening few words. He was a very brave boy to come back to that school, where even the teachers hunted in packs. Did I dream this? can anybody remember the occasion too? I have probably used a little poetic license, but would love someone somewhere to fill in the gaps and add to this folklaw. |
| 1969-1974 | Phil Ashwin | I would enjoy hearing from old school friends or teachers that may remember me. |
| 1971-1976 | Mike Harland | |
| 1970-1975 | Pete Taberham | It's amazing what you
find on the net when you have a boring couple of hours at work with naff
all else to do. Seems a long, long time ago (well actually it is) I was
there 70-75 and enjoyed every minute of it, although didn't appreciate it
at the time. Nice seeing some interest in the old place. |
| 1970-1975 | Ste Pickering | |
| 1970-1975 | Margaret Hawthorn | |
| 1971-1976 | Stan Critchley | Just seen the web site GREAT. Where is everyone from 1971 - 1976 |
| 1971-1976 | Barrie Dawson |
I was at Beamont from 1971 to 1976, my
last form was 5H Mr Sam Hoyle.
|
| 1971-1976 | Steve Ryder | Nice website John. It brought back a hell of a lot of memories for myself and the wife (who also went to Beamont). Some good memories, some bad, but very pleasant to remember. The staff photos really made us smile. I was in the year above you with the likes of Gary Butler, but spent most of my formative years with John Jones, Ste Robinson and co |
| 1972-1977 | Mike Ferris |
My memory was very poor regarding school, but
after seeing a few pictures and names of the old school it really does
jog your memory back into life.
|
| 1972-1977 | Angela Douglas | Did some of the teachers really look that young, or is it just a sign that 20 odd years down the line I'm getting old along with the rest of you. Would love to hear from you all. |
| 1972-1977 | Mandy Coleman | |
| 1972-1977 | Julie Dawson | Hi everyone I hope this finds you all well, and that life has treated you all fair. I am now living in Scotland with my 2 children. Look forward to hearing how everyone has been and what they have been doing in the FEW years since we left school. |
| 1972-1977 | Jackie Ellison | Thanks for your email
and Yes I am one of the Beamont 40 year olds, indeed I am now 41. I
now live in Halifax, West Yorkshire with my husband Jules. We both
work in the IT Sector. My Mum still lives in Warrington and I get to
see her at least once every 6 weeks, or so. I am still in contact
with Lynn Jenkison, who is married, living in Stockport and is a Teacher
and up to 5 years ago saw quite a bit of Lesley Baker - I think she still
lives in Orford though but we just lost contact when I got married. Having looked at your web site I recall many of the people and would be interested in attending the next reunion, should one be organised. You'll have to let me know when you are next meeting up so that I can see if I can make it. I'll contact Lynn too and get her to come along. |
| 1972-1977 | Janet McDermott | Great page - enjoyed
reading about Walt Norris and Sammy Hoyle. Probably see you at the reunion for our 50ths!! |
| 1972-1977 | Julie Worral | |
| 1972-1977 | Cathy Millar | Last time I saw anyone from school was at a reunion I think in1989 (the memory gets a little hazy these days) at the time Vicky Povey was living in The Cheshire Cheese Pub in Latchford and Sue Taylor was visiting from Canada where she now lives, a few of us met up after the reunion to have a good gossip. Give me my school days anytime!! |
| 1972-1977 | Mark Bradley | Not living in Warrington. I still keep in touch with Mike Warburton |
| 1972-1977 | Des Brennan | ![]() |
| 1972-1977 | Val martin | ![]() |
| 1972-1977 | Kev Fletcher |
What a great surprise to hear from you. Thinking back, since I left
Warrington Oct 78, to join the Air Force. I'm pretty sure you are the
first person I have had contact with from school. Quite amazing really.
I live in Holland now, as you know from FRU, with my Dutch wife Brigitte
and 18 year old daughter Pamela. We live in a small town called Huizen,
approx 45 mins east of Amsterdam. I am an aircraft engineer for KLM
working at Amsterdam airport Schiphol. I work on Boeing 737's in one of
the hangers which are on the opposite side of the airport from the
arrivals & departure terminals. Previous to KLM, I was working in
the middle east for 15 years. Repairing military aircraft for the Sultan
of Oman's airforce and previous to Oman the Royal Air Force.
Anyway, it really is great to hear from you. Feel free to pass on my
address & e mail address and if there is another reunion, count me
in. I will also let my sister Sandra, still at Thirlmere and my
brother Stephen, now in Scotland, know about the web site.

| 1972-1977 | Donald Elwell | Just gone thru your web-site...... WELL DONE MATE!. It has brought back lots of memories, some of which I'm not sure that I want to remember (wacky races etc). The poem was great, it summed it all up really well, as if it was only yesterday, not ****** years ago. It has even got me trying to find my old photos of the Paris trip. I still live in Warrington, but work for the Civil Service out of an office in far flung Accrington. I made the break from the drinks trade after 20 years, for a cushy desk job. Ive got one lad (just got his GCSE results,10 passes with better grades than me so he's rubbing that in), and two step-daughters both in their twenties. Please pass on my best wishes to everyone else, when you get to see them. Getting together for a beer or two sounds good to me. Just let me know where and when. |
| 1972-1979 | Cathy Pidgeon | |

Is this then or now? |
| 1972-1979 | John Williams | Thanks to everyone who has got in
touch. Keep spreading the word!
Steve Over, Val Brennan (Martin), Des Brennan, Ian Sim, Angela Over (Douglas), John Williams, Sue & Eric Seddon & kids. |
| 1972-1979 | Elaine Rodgers | Remember me anyone. I have lost contact with U all even though I still have links with Warrington. See U soon possibly |
| 1972-1979 | Lyn Jenkinson | Lyn Jenkinson here. Married for ten years. Have one child [my contribution to the worlds' population!] called William. I have fond memories of my time at Beamont |
| Hello John, lovely to
hear from you, thanks for letting me know about the website its brilliant,
I couldn't believe all them old photos, there are names there that I had forgotten about. Will get in touch soon lots of love Vicky. P.S. Hows Angela Douglas doing love to hear from her. |
||
| 1973-1978 | Tony Jones | Share interest of reunion, finished in '78. Never had one for our year, as far as i'm aware. Know of half a dozen others in my year also interested. |
| 1973-1978 | Diane Robinson |
Currently doing the rounds of former classmates 40th ?Birthdays (Argh!!!!!!) great to meet up with old faces though.
|
| 1973-1978 | Ivan Thomason | |
| 1973-1978 | Cliff Pletan |
Great web site! A lot of good and bad memories, as any kid trying to make it. All I can say is that Knocker scared the crap out of me but I respected him. Bibby was cool as was Hoyle. I could only look up to Kevin the runner as I watched him run through town on weekends. Gus O`Rourke was the the biggest bully going and deserved his ass kicked many times over and I had a small crush on Sue Potter! |
| 1974-1979 | Michelle Elfleet (Tague) |
i would like to hear from someone else who
perhaps was there at the same time.
looking forward to hearing from you or
anyone!
|
| 1974-1979 | Jackie Lippitt | I don't have much contact with old school mates, but it would be nice to get in touch again. |
| 1974-1979 | Jackie Brown | |
| 1974-1979 | June Smith | Would love to hear from anyone who remembers her |
| 1974-1979 | Andy Morris | I used to have lovely dark
hair and combed it everyday. The years have been unkind,& "Bald is
Beautiful"; or so they say - I suppose if the rest of you looks
good that may be so. Did anyone else have a trim little figure with muscles
in all the right places. I wonder if the beer monster has found the rest of you (and the curry monster
for that matter) Forget six packs Barrels rule ok. The last time I saw everyone was when I organised a
ten year reunion at Thames Board club in 1989, I was hoping that someone else would arrange the next one, anyone daft enough, I mean good enough to give it a go. |
| 1974-1979 | Martin McNicholas |
Fabulous site. Well done to you. I was in 74-79 year and we have just held our 25th year reunion recently. I mentioned your site to a few people. Is there any organisation that can supply me with names of people in our year. i.e. a register of some sort. We had about 30-40 people at the reunion, but there must be another 80-100 people to contact. I have noticed Eddie Woodall’s name on your list. I think when I started he was in 3rd year. Good mate while I was in school, although he probably won’t remember me. If you have any contact details for him, please pass my e-mail onto him. |
| 1975-1980 | Ste Cullen | Went to beamont from 75-80. Still see a lot of our year, Chizzy,Chaddy, Rourkey, Chambo etc As well as Mark Fisher, Dave Reid and Sean Potter. Re-union sounds like a good idea, last time I saw Janine Foster she mentioned about trying to organise one |
| 1975-1980 | Jayne Thompson |
Great idea about the website..
Hope you get many more people signing in.. Ste Cullen mentioned a reunion - another good idea.. I have recently been in touch with Julie Holt - she keeps talking about a reunion but sounds as though we are all to busy to organise one! I think it needs to be done before too many wrinkles and grey hairs settle in and wedon't recognise each other. I saw Mr Norris at a church service the other week - amazed he didn'tlook any different! |
| 1975-1980 | Ste Hewitt |
Nice to see that so many of our year
are still knocking about. Although I still live in W'gton and town
it now and again, dont see many of them about. Have seen woodsey,
chaddy, (usually p****ed, i might add) and thats about it. If a reunion is on the cards count me in!!!!!!! ps Whats that about cindy warren and a MBE!!! Is it THEE cindy warren??? |
| 1975-1980 | Pat McDermott | Sorry you could not see the name of my better half. It is of course Chris Meakin (Chizzy) |
| 1975-1980 | Chris Meakin |
We both went to Beamont from 1975 to
1980. We started out in Mrs McCallams class for the first two years,
then went on to Sammy Hoyle, Ben Hall and Phil Bibby. We have
been together since 5th year and married 12 years ago and have two kids. There are lots of people that we still see, including Glen Chamberlain, Ste Cullen and Neil Rourke. It would be really nice to see people again, a reunion would be great. |
| 1975-1980 | Tracy Haslam | I have enjoyed looking at the photos of the staff, and also those from the reunions. I was disappointed that none of my school year seem to be involved - so come on lets go to the next one! Need to contact each other more so that we can attend the school reunion next time. |
| 1977-1982 | Tracy Wells |
I was at Beamont between 77-82, my name back then was Tracy
Wells.
Yes it was THE Cindy Warren that got an MBE in the New Year List 2002. She got it for developing drug services for prisoners. She has worked very hard for it and I'm sure everyone that knows her is very proud. (Tracy Brown) |
| 1977-1982 | Paul Warburton | My name is Paul Warburton and I attended Beamont 1977-82, does anyone remember me? I remember loads of you and it would be great to meet you all again. |
| 1980-1986 | Wilf Rattigan |
Anyone remember me? I'm sure someone will
remember a name like Wilf. I had loads of mates like, Gaz Holbrook, Phil Peters, Carl Richardson- too many to
mention.
Anyone out there knows me just drop me a
line.
